The 10%: An inclusive social platform for the disability community

Zelio.io partnered with The Ten Percent, a community dedicated to the 10% of people living with disabilities or health conditions.

The company provided the core idea: a social app that fosters meaningful connections, education, and resources for individuals with disabilities.

As the sole product designer, I was responsible for end-to-end design: UX research, competitive analysis, accessibility strategy, rapid prototyping,

UI design, and web presence. Building from brand foundations and colors, I created every user touchpoint across mobile and web,

designing a scalable ecosystem that balanced community, accessibility, and security.

At its core, the app was designed to bring people together, creating a safe, inclusive space where individuals living with disabilities can connect through shared experiences, find belonging, and build community. Rather than functioning as just another social platform, it emphasizes trust through security measures, empathy through connection, and robust accessibility features. The Ten Percent Mobile App fosters meaningful relationships, empowers users to share their stories, and provides a foundation for a stronger, more connected disability community.

My Experience Building The 10%

Designing for the disability community required moving beyond accessibility compliance and focusing on belonging, safety, and trust. While many platforms offer generic accessibility features, few create spaces where identity and lived experience are core to the design.


The biggest lesson was that inclusion starts at onboarding. By giving users control over how they define and share their disabilities, the app created a foundation of transparency and empowerment. Accessibility tools like text readers, contrast settings, and captions mattered, but pairing them with community-first flows made them meaningful.


Most importantly, I learned the value of building equity into design systems.

Every choice from color coding disability types to contextual privacy controls was about letting users feel both seen and protected.
